The Bruce Katz Band
Led by renowned pianist and Hammond B-3 organist, Bruce
Katz, The Bruce Katz Band plays original music that is
full of blues spirit drawing heavily from New Orleans R&B,
"soul-jazz" and boogie-woogie.
- A powerful, four piece band blending guitar
and Hammond B-3 organ together into a sound that is original and
yet traditional at its core.
- Bruce performs regularly with the Gregg Allman Band and the John Hammond Quartet
- Bruce has recently performed and/or recorded
with Ronnie Earl & the Broadcasters, Duke Robillard, Little Milton, Joe Louis Walker, Maria MuldaurDavid
"Fathead" Newman, Jerry Portnoy and
John Hammond
Aside from the Bruce Katz Band, Bruce also performs
in a traditional Hammond Organ trio format.
"Bruce Katz is a spectacular talent! He's a brilliant composer
and arranger who uses uncommon and unique
musical intelligence to redefine jazz and blues far beyond the pale
of the accepted definitions of keyboard competence. Whether on piano
or organ, when you hear Bruce Katz you know it's him, unmistakably
and uniquely."
- Larry Coryell, Oct. 17,
'06
"This man is as good as it gets. One of the greatest keyboard
artists I've ever heard"
- John Hammond
"He can play Blues, Jazz, Bach.... Man, he's a heavy"
- Gregg Allman
In addition to performing, Katz teaches piano, Hammond organ and
theory at the Berklee College of Music
in Boston and teaches
the first ever in-depth blues history/analysis course there as well.
He also conducts Master Classes in Hammond B3 and Blues History,
which he has done at various music festivals worldwide.
