The Bruce Katz Band

The Bruce Katz Band was formed in 1991, and recorded its first CD, "Crescent Crawl" for AudioQuest in 1992. The original members besides Bruce were Lorne Entress, Marty Ballou and Kevin Barry. Because Bruce was playing and recording with Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, the band was a "part-time" band from 1992-97, even while recording a second CD, "Transformation" in 1994. In 1997, Bruce left Ronnie Earl, and devoted all his energy to the band.
Bruce hooked up with drummer Ralph Rosen, and the two have formed the core of the band to this day. Guitarist Julien Kasper played and recorded with the band from 1997-2003 along with bassists Mark Poniatowski and Blake Newman.During this time the band recorded "Mississippi Moan" (1997, AudioQuest) and "Three Feet Off The Ground" (2000, AudioQuest).
Bassist Rod Carey and guitarist Michael Williams signed on in 2003, both of whom had played with Bruce in various situations in the past. Rod was with Bruce in Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, and Bruce had played on Mike's debut CD, "Late Night Walk" in addition to playing many gigs with him over the years. This band recorded the most recent CD, "A Deeper Blue", on the Severn Records Label in July, 2004.
Recently, Chris Vitarello has also started playing guitar with the band, sharing the guitar chair with Mike Williams. Bruce and Chris met after Bruce's move to upstate NY and Chris has played with the band of the last two tours. Chris also plays with Jimmy McGriff.
The band has toured Europe many times, and maintains an active touring schedule in the U.S.
